Privacy Policy

Effective 12 August 2026 · smithyy.com is owned and operated by Harrington Smith, sole trader (ABN 20410619716), Brisbane, QLD, Australia.

This page explains, in plain English, exactly what happens to your information when you fill out the contact form or simply browse this site. If anything here is unclear, get in touch and I'll explain it properly.

1. Information I collect

When you use the contact form, you give me your name, email address, an optional company name, and whatever message you write.

Along with that submission, the server automatically records your IP address, basic browser/device information (user agent), and the time you sent it. This is used only for spam and abuse prevention, never for tracking or profiling you.

When you browse the site, your browser sends a single, cookie-free ping recording the page you're on and the page you arrived from (if any), along with your IP address and browser/device information. This is used only to count visits in aggregate; no individual browsing profile is built or sold.

2. How your information is used

  • To read and personally reply to your enquiry.
  • To keep an internal record of the enquiry so replies thread correctly and I have a history to refer back to for ongoing work.
  • To rate-limit and block spam/abusive submissions.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which pages get visited and roughly how often, so I can improve the site.

I do not use your details for marketing newsletters, automated drip campaigns, or unsolicited promotional contact, and I never sell, lease or otherwise share your information with data brokers or marketing firms.

3. Where your information goes

Contact form submissions and page-view pings are both forwarded server-to-server, authenticated with a private key and never routed through a third-party service, to a private admin system I built and operate myself, running on the same server as this website. Only I can log in and view it.

If that system is ever unreachable, your enquiry falls back to being emailed straight to my personal inbox over an encrypted (TLS) connection via iCloud Mail, the only outside company that ever handles a copy of your message. I don't use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, ad networks, or any other third-party trackers or marketing platforms.

4. Cookies

This site does not set cookies and does not use any advertising or tracking cookies of any kind. The visit-counting described above runs without cookies or browser storage.

5. Data retention

I keep enquiry and correspondence records for as long as they're reasonably useful, generally for the life of our professional relationship plus a period afterwards in case you get back in touch. Aggregate page-view data is kept to track trends over time and does not identify you individually. You can ask me to delete your personal information at any point (see below).

6. Your rights

Wherever you're located, you can ask me at any time to:

  • See a copy of the personal information I hold about you.
  • Correct anything that's inaccurate or out of date.
  • Delete your personal information from my systems and inbox.

Reach out through the contact form or by email and I'll action it personally, usually within a few business days.

7. Security

  • This site and its forms are served over HTTPS, encrypting everything between your browser and the server.
  • Internal calls between this site and my private admin system are authenticated with a secret key and are never exposed to the public internet.
  • Contact form submissions are rate-limited per IP address to deter automated abuse.
  • The fallback email path uses STARTTLS with certificate verification, so messages can't be intercepted in transit.
  • My inbox and admin system are protected by unique credentials, and device authentication where supported.

8. Children's privacy

This site is a professional portfolio aimed at businesses and event organisers, not children. I don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and if I become aware that I have, I'll delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy occasionally as the tools behind this site change. Any changes will be posted here with a revised effective date, and I won't use information collected previously in a materially different way without telling you.

10. Contact

Questions about this policy, or a request about your data, are welcome through the contact form on this site or directly at [email protected].
